UK American Studies Courses
Introduction to American Studies
American Studies explores the history, development and diversity of one of the most powerful countries on the planet. Teaching covers diverse areas such as music, film, politics, literature and history, combining different academic approaches to inform and educate. To grasp how America came to be in its current position, American Studies will offer the opportunity for students to address each different area in great detail.
Students will be introduced to core aspects of American culture and life in the first year of study, taking in the defining moments of American history. In the second year, students are invited to choose from a wide variety of topics to focus on.
Many UK universities such as Keele University, University of Manchester and University of East Anglia will offer the chance for students to spend a year abroad in America or Canada in their third year of study, before completing their final dissertation piece in the fourth year.
